Below are some of the comments received from faculty attendees of the TLT workshops in recent years, entered into the evaluation instrument we administer every day of the workshop to help us improve the event each year. All of the comments below are from the Friday evaluations.

2006 The opportunity to interact both with staff and faculty colleagues was stimulating, a pleasure, and an enhancement for generating classroom teaching ideas. I am glad that I did devote a large part of the week to it. Although the motivating factors were some specific questions, I learned so much more, all of it useful! Overall great overview of technology. I honestly can’t remember the last time I learned so much in one week! 2005 The workshop was very helpful. I especially appreciate the emphasis on the continuing availability of the workshop presenters as future resources. A great strength of the workshop was the often seamless discussion of learning and technology. This has truly broadened my own understanding and awareness of the possibilities inherent in the use of appropriate technology. Workshop was eye-opening and exceeded my expectations. You have done an outstanding job of creating a positive learning environment, weaving the conceptual with the practical, and serving as true facilitators. 2004 ... excellent for getting us to articulate our teaching methodology and philosophy. Some of the most important aspects were hearing what fellow faculty have been doing, thinking of doing, concerned about, etc.. Extremely thought provoking and helpful for me to organize and reevaluate my approach to grading and assessment of students and their auditions I found this much more relevant and engaging than I had expected. The pre-seminar readings (with one exception), were pedantic, and "jargon-filled". . . I had heard of mostly all the theories and approaches to teaching and learning, but what it was mosre useful was to hear about how other faculty actually apply them to their classes. The different backgrounds of the professors attending the workshop made it so much more useful and innovative. It was good to see how others have the same difficulties in evaluation and in reaching "deep" learning and to see techniques from them on how they address these issues I am a true beginner so I learned a lot. The instructors--especially S---- --were super-patient, approachable and extremely knowledgeable. It was so great to have time to plan and work on a project that I had to do anyway, but able to do better because of this class. I really found it valuable to apply what we learned to a hands-on project. Lots of practical issues came up that I learned how to resolve (with help from the staff). It felt wonderful to have a finished or semi-finished project at the end of the week. I enjoyed ALL the presentations, even those on topics I thought I would find boring or dry. I loved the variety and range of disciplines. We also got lucky in having a great group of people in this workshop! This workshop was so much better than I'd expected. It's the best Northwestern workshop, gathering, event--anything!--I've ever attended or participated in. It's a zillion times better than anything that happens in my department. What a great way to have spent five days! I did not mind at all getting up in the morning and coming to class. BRAVO! 2003 What I found particularly helpful about the workshop was the chance to try out using some parts of Blackboard for teaching that I hadn't really figured out and to get some help with that (I had been wanting to explore the quiz/survey area). 2002 The hands on training was terrific. It allowed me to try out my ideas for my course and to get immediate feedback and help. I also really enjoyed all the teaching discussions, especially those led by Greg,Scott,Brian and Mary. The degree of interaction with my colleagues -- terrific, useful, fun and interesting. I also found the array of services/people at AT amazing...I had never been to 2East before. I enjoyed the pleasant, supportive atmosphere. I thought the course was very accomodating to the particular needs of the participants. I enjoyed it very much, esp the interactive with colleagues from other fields. Really dedicated conveners, totally helpful, accommodating, smart and pleasant, offering us a wonderful opportunity to integrate technology into teaching and to really think about what we do in the classroom. I would give it an overall A plus, yes, even excellent on a high order. A wonderful human element that brought together both organizers and particyipants. Also it is wonderful to play role of students again. Never have a better opportunity to take a breath, get away from regular work and to focus hard and productively on technology and teaching. Really superior, high quality, dedicated and smart people so generous of time and spirit and NEVER made me feel inadequate or clumsy, even though I was both...frequently! This was a very collegial group, which fostered learning but also made the whole experience a pleasure (even while we worked quite hard!). |
