Teaching, Learning and Technology Program
Northwestern University
Program Update
Our next TLT workshop will be held beginning on Saturday, January 24, 2009 (8:45AM - 4:00PM) and continued on three successive Friday afternoons, February 6, February 13, and February 20, 2009 (all 2:00PM- 4:30PM).
Eligibility for participation is being extended to both faculty and graduate students this year. Each faculty member attending will have the opportunity to recruit a grad student of his or her choice to join in attending TLT, or may be paired with a student who has been admitted for participation through a competitive process administered by TLT staff. The intent of the faculty/grad student pairing in the workshop is twofold: to offer the faculty member a "helping hand" for collaborating on the technological aspects of a major project, and to encourage dialogue and reflection between the two groups on teaching and new technologies.
TLT offers participants experience in interactive learning, technology demonstrations, and one-on-one tutorials while they work to innovate their teaching by the meaningful integration of technology and pedagogy. Throughout the program, faculty and graduate students may be teamed to develop projects related to the faculty's teaching. Spaces in the TLT program are limited.
If you are a faculty member please send to tlt@northwestern.edu a letter of commitment, in which you (1) describe a course or learning context that you would like to enhance with technology; (2)commit to attend all four dates; and (3) indicate that your department chair supports your participation in the program. If you wish, you may also choose to identify a specific graduate student to join you in the program to work with you throughout the course of the workshop. We will be making a call for nominations to the TLT program through Deans and departmental chairs as well, stressing the value the program has brought the University as a whole. Applications are due by December 1 to tlt@northwestern.edu.
Graduate students may be invited by faculty participants or may apply on their own for the program. Individual applicants must supply a letter of commitment, in which they (1) commit to all four sessions; (2) indicate their interest in learning more about enhancing teaching with technology. Individual graduate students may be paired up with faculty participants to collaborate on a project related to the faculty member's teaching. Comments from graduate students who attended a very similar workshop in the past are available here. Applications are due by December 1 to tlt@northwestern.edu.
The Teaching, Learning, & Technology (TLT) Program is offered jointly by the Searle Center for Teaching
Excellence, the Academic & Research Technologies unit of Northwestern's University's Information Technology (NUIT) division, and the University Library.
